Masonry Questions, Answered

  • What are signs my chimney needs repair?

Common signs include cracked or spalling brick, a damaged chimney cap, loose mortar joints, or water stains near the fireplace. If you notice any of these, it's worth having the chimney inspected.

  • What is tuckpointing?

Tuckpointing is the process of removing old, damaged mortar from brick joints and replacing it with new mortar. It restores strength and keeps water out of the wall.

  • Why does mortar color matching matter?

Matching mortar color and texture to the surrounding brick keeps repairs from standing out. Mismatched mortar can make a wall look patched instead of restored.

  • How long does new concrete take to cure?

Concrete typically reaches enough strength to walk on within a few days, but full curing can take about a month. We'll give you specific timelines for your project.

  • What does a drainage fix involve?

Drainage work can include grading the soil around your home, adding drain lines, or redirecting downspouts so water moves away from your foundation instead of pooling near it.

  • What areas does #1 Masonry LLC serve?

We serve Lexington, KY and nearby towns including Nicholasville, Georgetown, Versailles, Richmond, Winchester, Louisville, Frankford, and more. Contact us to confirm service for your location.
